Standard Directions for Meetings at MIT[edit | edit source]

Usual location is MIT E51 (70 Memorial Drive / 2 Amherst St, enter from Amherst St, directions below), third floor. (Room number changes sometimes, so see the meeting announcement for correct number.)

Maps and location[edit | edit source]

E51[edit | edit source]

MIT's Building E51, 70 Memorial Drive (parking lot entrance at 2 Amherst St. See below for more parking details.) The building is between Memorial Drive and Wadsworth St. at Amherst St. It is the Sloane Business School's Tang Center on East Campus, not Tang Hall, a West Campus residence.

Directions:[edit | edit source]

By T[edit | edit source]

Take the Red Line to Kendall. Building E51 is right around the corner from the T stop. From the Inbound side, facing into Main Street, turn right (toward Boston) and walk down the block. Turn right on Wadsworth Street and walk to the corner of Amherst Street. Building E51 is the building across the street directly in front of you with the metal canopy.

Small elevator is behind the stairs; large elevator is up a half flight and back by the parking lot door.

By car[edit | edit source]

I-93 or I-90 to Memorial Drive; use legal U-turns as needed.
Approach Amherst St from Ames or Wadsworth St.
Building is at corner of Amherst & Wadsworth & Memorial drive; use entrance on Amherst.
E51 parking lot is between the wings of the building, up a ramp from Amherst street. (Observe reserved space restrictions on the row nearest building.) AFTER 5PM ONLY - see below.

Detours[edit | edit source]

Current on-campus construction -- See Google Maps Traffic or MIT construction detour page

Wadsworth Street is 75% closed , to Main and to Memorial Drive.

The block of Wadsworth Street from Amherst Street (between Buildings E51 and E52) and Main Street is closed to vehicular traffic until further notice. Wadsworth Street from Memorial Drive to Amherst Street is one-way from Memorial Drive toward Amherst Street

Longfellow Bridge is reopened in both directions.

MIT Construction page for latest details.

Parking Alert[edit | edit source]

Recent changes in MIT Parking Dept web pages (public parking; see also parking , visitors ) had revoked all un-permitted parking after-hours, but it has been relaxed since start of term (since gridlock didn't ensue?); net-net, the E51 parking is officially available to visitors (that's us) after 5pm.

(The mid-summer ban was a natural response to several other East Campus parking lots being eaten by new building sites for campus expansion.)

Other options remain

  • Cambridge meters (note late pay hours!), and a few State meters on Memorial Drive,
Note that if you choose to circle for a meter, last we checked they had NOT all been upgraded, they still require quarters; don't rely on App Tap or Swipe yet ... and they are not free until 8pm. This applies to both Cambridge and State meters AFAIK.
  • Paid lot/garages. E.g. http://www.pilgrimparking.com/boston-parking-garages/kendall-square-south-garage.htm "Evenings $9 (enter after 4 pm, exit by 6 am)"
  • Come by Train, Bus, Bicycle, or Foot if you can (still applies but less drastically)
(Note - Parking at MBTA Garages are convenient to T and not overpriced, unlike most in-town garages.)
