Standard Directions for Meetings at MIT[edit | edit source]

Usual location is MIT E51 (70 Memorial Drive / 2 Amherst St, enter from Amherst St, directions below), third floor. (Room number changes sometimes, so see the meeting announcement for correct number.)

[edit | edit source]

Maps and location[edit | edit source]

E51[edit | edit source]

MIT's Building E51, 70 Memorial Drive (parking lot entrance at 2 Amherst St. See below for more parking details.) The building is between Memorial Drive and Wadsworth St. at Amherst St. It is the Sloane Business School's Tang Center on East Campus, not Tang Hall, a West Campus residence.

[edit | edit source]

Directions:[edit | edit source]

By T[edit | edit source]

Take the Red Line to Kendall. Building E51 is right around the corner from the T stop. From the Inbound side, facing into Main Street, turn right (toward Boston) and walk down the block. Turn right on Wadsworth Street and walk to the corner of Amherst Street. Building E51 is the building across the street directly in front of you with the metal canopy.

By car[edit | edit source]

Park elsewhere and follow above walking instructions.

Parking Alert.[edit | edit source]

Recent changes in MIT Parking Dept web pages (parking , visitors, public ) no longer allow un-permitted parking after-hours.[edit | edit source]

(This is a natural response to several other East Campus parking lots being eaten by new building sites for campus expansion.)
Only legit parking is Cambridge meters (late hours!), a few State meters on Memorial Drive, and paid lot/garages.
Note that if you choose to circle for a meter, they have NOT been upgraded, they still requires quarters; no App Tap or Swipe yet ... and they are not free until 8pm. This applies to both Cambridge and State meters AFAIK.
Come by Train, Bus, Bicycle, or Foot if you can!
(Parking at MBTA Garages are convenient to T and not overpriced, unlike most in-town garages.)

Also, construction detour is even longer than last time if driving, Wadsworth to/from Mem Drive & Amherst St to Ames both closed, only access by car is Wadsworth to/from Main St (east-bound Main St, you'll think you're headed for Bridge or Mem Drive, turn right on Wadsworth just after small Bank of America branch (opposite the Galaxy Earth Sphere on left)).

Wadsworth St detour ended Spring 2016. but is back June 2017.
Longfellow Bridge Detour - Open SOUTH to Boston only. Cross Charles River *from* Boston/I-90/Mass Pike at Harvard, BU, Mass Ave, or North Station/Science Museum.

Monitor MIT Construction page for latest details.

Excerpts from MIT Parking Web-pages[edit | edit source]

  • "Visitors who are not hosted by an MIT department may pay to park at an MIT lot located on the corner of Mass Ave and Vassar Street (139 Mass Ave). You may call 617-258-6510 for current rates and availability."

(Reading in context, Hosted => given a paid voucher that hosting Dept buys from Parking Dept, so i don't think how we get our rooms counts as "hosted" with Parking.)

Parking at MIT without a Permit[edit | edit source]

  • MIT parking permits are required for all vehicles on MIT property.
  • Vehicles without MIT parking permits parked in any MIT parking area will be subject to ticketing or towing.

After Hours[edit | edit source]

  • Anyone with a valid MIT parking permit can park his/her vehicle in any parking facility on campus after 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends and MIT holidays. Please note that parking is only allowed in spots that are not otherwise reserved.

( Change here is that permits for _any_ lot now valid in _all_ lots after 2:30; previously permits were _not_ required per website after 5 and in reality after 3, but now no. Parking is at risk. Cambridge meters and the pay lots and garages are the only safe options.)

"Evenings $9 (enter after 4 pm, exit by 6 am)"
